If you're new here, why not say hello to everyone and tell us a bit about yourself! This a cozy place, so make yourself welcome.
Here's a couple of questions you can use to start you off:
- How did you find this place?
- What genres of music do you like?
- Any fun facts you think are neat
And anything else you'd like to share!
Good evening! I am Sdzon. I was invited here through the fine folks at the RTC. I am very interested in old-fashioned media and electronics.
I enjoy a variety of different types of music, but my 3 mains right now are anarchist punk, lo-fi chill, and girly-pop. (Seems like I have discovered the true 3 genders of music)
I want to plug LGR on YouTube for getting me interested in electronics and retro tech, very wholesome nerd who has spent many years talking about games and computers. Check him out if you have a think for old beige box computers like I do :)
Thanks for reading!
Hi, howdy, hello!
I was directed here through RTC as well. You can call me whatever really, Obstagoon works, I just like my anonymity where possible. I do digital art and dabble in webdev occasionally, but I have no clue what I'm doing lmao. I miss the old internet and its webpage design, and am also into retro tech.
I'm not picky on music, I like what I like. Gazette is my favorite band, but I've been listening to Hum a lot recently. I want to learn bass guitar but I am Extremely Too Broke.
Fun facts, uh... Very passionate about animation? Old cel based stuff especially. Favorite anime is 90s Trigun, favorite cartoon is probably Rise of TMNT.
Nice to meet y'all!
@Sdzon @Obstagoon welcome to you both! Glad you could make it.
@Sdzon That's quite a variety of genres, you'll have to post some examples in the Music board
Also LGR is awesome, I've seen a few of his videos. I'll have to sub to him again (I had nuked my YT a while back so I gotta resub to a bunch of stuff on Invidious (https://yt.cult9.xyz)). We'll have to get a retro tech thread going
@Obstagoon OG Trigun is
easily in my top 5 for Anime. Also I have not heard of those bands you had mentioned, but I'll check them out for sure! If you have any recommendations for them feel free to post. Cool that you're into webdev stuff too, have you just been doing straight HTML/CSS or using frameworks like React?
@danmaku Thank you! Yeah, Trigun is great! Great as is but from an artistic standpoint as well, I keep thinking about how it was done on cels and it completely blows my mind. So much detail and SOOO many straight lines. I can only dream of having that much patience, ha.
Not sure about recommendations since my favorite songs are constantly shifting, but here's the latest albums of Gazette (https://invidious.nerdvpn.de/playlist?list=PLcWdStm8fksXSkXJDNZG5tZl7RfpzaWTV) and Hum (https://invidious.nerdvpn.de/playlist?list=PLaM_ShX_Thd3Y8_TMs7OrH30ZHCy0ae90). :)
I do mostly React! Very much prefer the front-end of things no matter what I use though, haha. I'd like to try and go back to just the basics for a bit honestly, but the quality of life stuff is pretty nice so I have yet to do so. Speed!!!

Animators of the past truly were on another level. The amount of time, energy and love put into animation like that really shows.

Dope!! I'll check them out when I get a moment.

Interesting! Honestly I have absolutely zero experience using frameworks for websites, I've always just used raw HTML and CSS or a static site generator. JavaScript is always used as a last resort. I try to make my sites accessible to as many machines and browsers as possible. Perhaps I'll look more into React. If you wanna embrace the old web I definitely recommend giving the ol' "from scratch" approach a try!
Yo, I am also here from RTC. I wanna see how long it'll take for people to guess who I am, so have fun with that lmao (it'll probably be easy but!!!)
I'm a lapsed free software tech nerd, just haven't had the time and energy to do that lately. Keen on trying to get a NeoCities site started and play around with that, finally write some more, make some weird art or something.
Also trying to get myself into more of a film-nerd mode, to varying levels of success. I have a stack of books I should finally get to reading (mostly queer lit fic, queer theory, short stories and plays, etc). Musically I have been trying to expand more into minimalist/experimental/musique concrete/fourth world/no wave/etc etc terrains...
I really enjoyed listening to Meredith Monk's Turtle Dreams today:
And I also really loved this album I came across earlier this week:
Opening Night - Bandcamp (https://a-we.bandcamp.com/album/opening-night)
I also just love my synth music & R&B/soul shit as always lol.
GOd sorry that was really long
Welcome
@rabbitphobia!
cool to see another free software advocate here. if you do end up making a site you should join the webring (https://webring.cult9.xyz)!
sounds like you got some interesting taste in media as well, itd be cool to get some sort of film or book review threads going
thanks for joining and i hope you enjoy yr time here!
Heyo! I go by many names! Some call me Dove, Saya, Kore, you can even call me Lain if ya want! Or gimme a new name! I'm very chill with identities that speak strongly to me!
I go by she/they, and am a femme nonbinary lesbian! I am happily married and have an adorable furbaby named Chai!
How did you find this place?
I found this place through browsing the indie web! Upon doing so I came across a place called Melon Forums! Saw the main moderator and creator of cult9 post the link to all the sites, and began to browse, and felt that this place would be nice to be apart of. Especially since I am moving away from social media, and moving towards the indie web and forums for my own mental health!
What genres of music do you like?
A very convoluted question! I was raised on vinyls, and cassette tapes, and then of course CDs and MP3 players. I listen to everything and all kinds of genres. Only ones I'm not a fan of are country and some rap music. Lately i've been moreso listening to horror movie soundtracks, breakcore, dreamcore, and a bunch of indie music revolving around anime!
Any fun facts you think are neat?
I've been coding in HTML since 2010/2011, I only recently started learning CSS, Java, and some other coding languages. I want to eventually become a programmer, I also have a goal to run my own self-hosted server one day! I just adore and love anything technical and digital! I also am a huge supporter, and user of Linux. I currently use Arch Linux!
I'm also extremely big on privacy, and mainly use matrix, session, or gajim for socializing. I do have discord but only because certain friends don't wanna leave discord. I also am planning to get myself a yubikey
I'm disabled & chronically ill, and due to this I struggle with agoraphobia, and consider myself a NEET despite being married. I hardly go anywhere, and I cannot work due to my disability.
I have a website I'm working on, on neocities as well, I'm a digital illustrator, avid writer, and beginner game dev!
I look forward to getting to know ya'll! <3

Welcome
@sickseeds!
Very cool that you found this place organically, and I feel you'll fit right in here.
Awesome to see another webmaster in the mix, your website is very reminiscent of the early internet! I'll be sure to check in on it as it evolves.
Self-hosting and GNU/Linux are my bread and butter - if you ever have any questions or things you wanna share this is the place. I'm always down to help or just nerd out hehe
Any creative stuff you've made and want to share is encouraged as well, I love seeing what others have made in any medium.
Glad you could be here; thanks for joining and I hope you enjoy it! <3
Thank you, that means alot! <3
Also if I can geek out with someone about Linux while also learning more about it and learning to self-host, I'll be on cloud nine!!
